In addition to his solo work, Dave also creates original work with the following collaborative projects:
Tantu Nada
A Folk-fusion duo featuring Dave Starke on guitar and vocals and Nish Pillay on percussion. Tantu Nada - loosely translated as “String of Sound” is a sonic exploration of original acoustic music. Both accomplished musicians in their own right, this project has been built over 10 years of collaboration, touring, performance and songwriting. Dave and Nish have undertaken 3 national tours together, performed extensively on each other’s solo recordings and their song “Brandy Bossa Nova” was recently used on the MNET/ACORN television series “Recipes for Love and Murder”.
The Hyacinth Wild
An Alt-Folk-Rock trio built around the songwriting of Dave Starke and Lizzie Gaisford (on guitar and bass respectively) with Strato Copteros on percussion. Formed in 2023 as an outlet for bigger and more elaborate songwriting, The Hyacinth Wild is a band thoroughly rooted in its context in modern South Africa. “We’re not trying to sound international” says Starke, “We’re just being ourselves”. Songs about the landscape - being lost in the Free State, observing rural decay in Zululand or nursing hangovers in Kalk Bay, The Hyacinth Wild will hold a mirror up to your experiences and invite you back home….
